September ...

...September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather,
And autumn’s best of cheer.

~Helen Hunt Jackson

September really has arrived and harvest has begun but with clouds rolling through like these ones ... harvest is going to have to dodge the rain clouds.

The Final Days of August ...

Friday, August 29, 2014:

A familiar morning scene ... and one that I never tire of!!!

Saturday, August 30, 2014:

The mid-morning huddle and tail swishing of those Summer flies ...

The FINAL day of August!!!  How is that possible???  Let the Fall Harvest begin ...

Crop Tour ...

This young, handsome lad was enjoying his evening stroll and crop tour while blending in quite nicely with his wheat field surroundings!

On The Fly ...

As this Swainson's Hawk soared over this wheat field while the sun set, we bid farewell to another summer day!  Its hard to believe canola crops are being swathed, fall migration has started and the days are getting noticeably shorter!  Summer is slipping away ...

Happy Belated ...

I'm late getting my blog post up so it's now the 5th but my intention was to say "Happy July 4th" to all my friends and fellow bloggers south of the border!  I hope you all had a great day celebrating with family and friends!  We had another severe thunderstorm watch this afternoon and the way the sky was shaping up, I wasn't sure what kind of fireworks we were going to have.  However, other than a couple of flashes of lighting and a few 'bangs' of thunder, we had a welcome rain!

Another Day Harvesting ...

... The Wheat!

Just another day out in the wheat field and certainly an abusive day on my camera!  I don't know how much dust and chaff other cameras are exposed to ... but mine definitely gets put through the ringer!!  We are hoping to wrap up the wheat in a day or so ... then off to the barley!  Let's hope this beautiful fall weather continues to hold!

Testing the Wheatfield

After finishing our pea field ... it was time to decide which field was going to be harvested next.  Well, since the wheat is on our home half ... we decided to take a test!  Hmm ... the results sent us to the barley field ... hmm ... and those results have us switching to the pickup header and moving to the canola tomorrow!!!  Ah ... the joys of harvest!  At least the weather is cooperating ... and there is something to said about that!!

A Field of Gold

... Golden, ripe 'harvest wheat' that is!  Well, the peas are off and in the bin so now we have to decide which field is next.  Perhaps the wheat ... it looks ready but so is the barley!  I guess the decision will be made in the morning!
