Winter ...

If you stand still outside you can hear it... Winter’s footsteps
 ~Animal Crossing:

Although the calendar still says "Autumn" ... it never fails that in November, we can usually hear and see "Winter's Footsteps!"

The Weekend

Saturday, March 22, 2014:  The Snow Line

Although plenty of snow disappeared before the official arrival of 'Spring,' the snow line has the Rough-legged Hawks slowly moving north and the Snowy Owls waiting patiently!  Both of these Arctic-nesting birds are certainly accustomed to the 'tug-o-war' game between Winter and Spring.  Lucky for us, we get to admire them for a few more days (or weeks dare I say) before the snow line retracts North and they migrate on!

(We were fortunate to have spotted 4 Snowy Owls on our travels!)

Sunday, March 23, 2014:  Warm Rays ... COLD Temperatures!

Brrr ... now a few weeks ago, -14C would have felt rather balmy but this recent blast of COLD feels colder!  Perhaps my mind is playing tricks on me, for I see those warm looking rays of sunshine and just expect them to actually hold warmth!!!

Serenity

It is the life of the crystal, the architect of the flake, the fire of the frost, the soul of the sunbeam. This crisp winter air is full of it.
~John Burroughs

"Crisp winter air," ... huh!  Lucky for us it's still AUTUMN!  Who knew?  That's okay ... Autumn scenes like this will forever take precedence over high rises, asphalt and billboards in any season!  In my humble opinion, there is nothing prettier than the prairie!

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Old Corral

Another grey day ... but certainly a bit warmer!  While out checking on the critters I walked past the old corral.  Most of it still standing and some of it, desperately in need of repair!  However, these old corral boards have certainly embraced the weather over the years.  Then again, the cattle have in turn, certainly welcomed these old corral boards, especially during inclement weather!
