Sunrise Shades

I'm so glad my window looks east into the sunrising.... It's so splendid to see the morning coming up over those long hills and glowing through those sharp fir tops. It's new every morning,
and I feel as if I washed my very soul in that bath of earliest sunshine.
~L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

I love that quote and although my eastern sky has long rolling hills dappled with Trembling Aspen groves instead of fir tops, its true ... the sunrise is new every morning!  It's a treat to start each day glancing out over that wondrous prairie, with a coffee in hand, listening to the hustle and bustle of our boys and watch the amazing and fast past changes of colour and light!  It's a new painting everyday!

Lamb or Lion

Ahhh ... sweet, sweet March!  Only you can arrive smiling on the first day, only to lash out with a nasty bite the next!  You really don't know if you are a lamb or a lion do you?  Yes, to say we had a mixed bag of almost everything today would be a bit of an understatement.  Blowing and drifting snow, snow, sun, more wind, sun, clouds, snow, sun, ... finishing off with clear skies and WIND!

Pre Super ...

I quick snap from the truck window as we returned home and knowing that the super moon would be rising very SOON!  Alas, a bit of a long story but my super moon was captured in memory while standing in a slough with a HEIFER instead!

That Perfect Rain

And so it rained and as the sky cleared there was a good inch of rain soaking into the ground!  Although the southern portion of our province has received a ridiculous amount of rain, causing flooding once again, I think everyone around here is happy with what was delivered!

Sun Kissed

It was a bit rainy, overcast and rather cool for a good portion of the day ... (yes, I was wearing my multiple layers AND my winter gloves today).  However, eventually that sun managed to shine through and kiss the landscape with its long, warm rays!

In A Nutshell

Friday, May 23, 2014:

From overcast, warm skies and the spotting of young moose still shedding his winter coat to the sunshine breaking through in its finally hours, Friday came and went!

Seeding our 2nd last field ...

Sunday, May25, 2014:

To finishing up one field and finally moving home just to get chased by those rain clouds!

Here's to the LAST week of May!  How did that happen?

Bring IT!

The clouds, — the only birds that never sleep.
~Victor Hugo

There has been no shortage of cloudy skies, threatening skies, nor COLD winds!  Brr... I really wish it would rain, snow or rain and snow ... either way, I just want it to get it out of its system so we can move onto to warmer days!  My rant for the day! LOL!  On the upside, stormy skies don't stop the 'Mama's' from doing their thing and although a cool spring ... I still prefer calving cows in May!

Bring On the RAIN

Our spring has come at last with the soft
laughter of April suns and shadow of April showers.
~Byron Caldwell Smith

I know I'm a bit biased but you have to admit there is nothing quite like clouds rolling across a big ole' prairie sky!  Better yet, clouds that brought a few rain showers and NOT snow!

Spring-Like

Aaaah ... the warmth of the sun's rays, melting snow and yes, the formation of those beautiful spring-like clouds!  It's getting closer and on days like today we can taste it!  Spring Fever has struck us all and although we know 'Old Man Winter' never leaves without a tantrum ... he can NOT take these beautiful, spring-like days away from us!  Spring is Coming!  Let the countdown begin!

Friday Afternoon

From clear skies to clouds rolling in ... Friday is here!  I was hoping for continued clear skies as the aurora borealis put on a bit of a display but the clouds and a quick snow flurry had different plans!  Ho Hum!

Vanishing Sun

Whether the weather be fine,
Whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Whether the weather be hot,
We'll weather the weather,
Whatever the whether,
Whether we like it or not

~Author Unknown

The clouds rolled in, the sun vanished and the wind and snow flurries have returned.  YUCK!

Before the Rain ...

I took a morning stroll.
I said 'hello' to my horses and watched the clouds roll!
I dreamed of those recent past summer days
but the crisp, autumn air was arriving in waves!
~TM

If there was ever a day that felt like the first day of Autumn ... today was truly the day!  Overcast, rainy, cold and dreary!  *sigh*  ... Good bye sweet September ... good bye warm days ...

Fast Moving Clouds

At one point, earlier in the day, it was actually clear, sunny and fairly warm!   BUT oh, how those clouds rolled in quickly this afternoon!  The weatherman said they would arrive and indeed they did.  Along with the wind ... oh that miserable wind, and the rain! Well, the skies have cleared off again but it is CRISP outside!  We are sitting at 5C and I am wondering if it is going to be a bit 'frosty' tomorrow morning!  I guess at this stage, it's only a matter of time before 'Jack Frost' does pay us a visit!

Prairie Crops and Prairie Clouds!

Brrrr ... it was only 3C this morning (it's definitely only a matter of time before we have a 'frosty' morning)!!!  However, the warmth of the sun returned along with that amazing prairie sky!  I love watching golden crops sway in the breeze against that magnificent big blue sky and clouds!  Oh those wonderful clouds!

Rolling Thunderheads!

There were no shortage of thunderheads rolling past this afternoon!  Lucky for us, the sun and the wind were stronger than the clouds and we finished putting the hay up that was ready!!!

Escaped ...

The day that is!  It was a busy one and not one for my camera.  So as the sun went down and the moon made its appearance ... I snapped these summer evening clouds!  It's still beautiful outside ... 17C and no wind.  However, the mosquitoes will certainly pack you off!

Good Night Sun

Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to
carry rain or usher storm, but to add
color to my sunset sky.
~Rabindranath Tagore

The sun finally returned late this afternoon ... it battled with the remains of storm clouds for most of the day!  However, lets hope it sticks around for a few days.  We've had the moisture, now we need sun, sun, sun!  With that being said ... 'Good Night Sun, I hope to see your return in the morning!'

Another Foggy Morn!

Even on cloudy days the sun waits to break through.
~Daniel,@blindedpoet

I love a morning fog.  I love watching the fog roll and lift and the light of the sun trying to break through.  And when and if, it finally does, the landscape is always breathtaking!  Well, the sun poked through for most of the day and the clouds certainly rolled past and built up to the point of us enjoying a tornado watch for a bit this afternoon.  Alas, that weather warning past and the sky is now heavy and the rain is coming down!  Ah ... the rainy season ... we need it and we'll take it!

With This Combination ...

You Just Know There Will Be a Bit of Rain ...

Sun, high in the west but clouds rolling in + BIG thunderhead clouds building in the east + it's BLACK over the Handhills + building in the north = RAIN with a slight touch of hail!  Hmm ... tis' the Thunderstorm season!

Spring Clouds

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh.
I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky.
I've seen al those castles and faces in the clouds,
My home is the prairie, and I cry out loud.
~David Bouchard

It was certainly 'spring' out on the prairies today.  The sun was warm, the wind cool and the dust was blowing.  The clouds rolled in and out like waves on a sea and for a brief moment they even brought hope of a rain shower!  Alas, the wind blew it away!

I also wanted to mention that Canadian Artist, Gena LaCoste painted a watercolour portrait of 'Olive, the Great Horned Owl!'  Check out Olive's beautiful portrait and check out Gena's amazing work at http://genalacoste.blogspot.ca/ and http://www.genalacoste.com.
