Counting Crows ...

Today, our youngest was my sidekick and big brother was helping Dad.  Something our youngest has really noticed while haying is the 'crows' and how they congregate!  So, in order to entertain himself while hanging out in the tractor with 'Mom,' ... he counts crows!  I on the other hand seem to be counting bales and the number of acres that remain!

My lil' man out testing the hay bales with a bale moisture probe and making sure the bales are a 'thumbs up' ... 'just right!'

Later this afternoon, we switched over to the small square baler.

Finito!  This field is DONE and the equipment is moved to the last field!  Yeah!

Mr. Crow

"Good Morning Mr. Crow!"

Yes, ever since my boys were very small (and in my eyes they are still small), we have always said "good morning" to Mr. Crow!  We are not exactly sure who is Mr. Crow, as we usually have a handful in the yard during the summer.  However, we just deem them all Mr.!  It always brings a smile and a chuckle to us when we hear the kids saying "good morning Mr. Crow" as they head outside.  Without missing a beat, Mr. Crow was waiting for his greeting this morning!

Squawking ...

Like a bunch of old crows and black birds ... there's been a few of us, myself included, squawking about the wind the last few days.  However, in light of the devastation caused by tornadoes in the US this week, we certainly have absolutely nothing to complain about.  Continued thoughts and prayers to the residents of Shawnee and Moore, Oklahoma.

Counting Crows

Not only can you count crows ... many, many, many crows these days... but you can also count the days of summer that remain!  Hmm ... I really don't like how they correlate!  Our days have definitely become shorter, the nights are getting cooler and the birds, crows and all, are beginning their late summer rituals of flocking together!  As much as I love witnessing the fall migration of birds, I'm always sad to see them go ...

The Return of Mr. Crow!

Ah ... yes, Mr. Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) has returned to the prairies!  Funny thing ... I've kind of missed hearing their raucous!  American Crows are indeed characters and without a doubt Mr. Crow and gang will ensure we hear and see their antics until late fall!
