A Ducky Day

First the Gadwall's (Anas strepera) arrived.  I believe they came in peace!  LOL!  They stretched and then went about their business of 'dabbling!'

Then the trouble makers arrived!  These two male Blue-Winged Teals (Anas discors) were bound, bent and determined to make waves with each other and any other duck in the way!

But hey, I guess that is life as a duck enjoying a ducky day!

  1. Morning Teri I love the duck shots. I was just wondering what lens you were using? I know Matt uses a duck blind of sorts, do you?

    1. Hi Pam! Thanks! Ducks can be so entertaining! I was using my Nikkor 70-200mm lens! I love it! I've never used a blind. I just plop my butt on the ground! Haha! These were taken at the dugout we have close to home and I just crouched behind the cattails for a bit and waited for the ducks to settle down. It didn't take long for them to do so and then I just slowly moved out. Even the shots I took of the black terns a few days ago, I just sat at the edge of the slough. If the birds/ducks take off right away, I find that within minutes they return. As long as you are fairly quiet and motionless, for the most part they won't even pay attention to you.
